- • Lower case only. Spaces become dashes automatically.
- • Keep the same names every time (always “instagram”, never “IG” or “Insta”).
- • Never add UTMs to links between pages of your own site.
- • Long link? Shorten it with a link shortener; the tracking still works.
How to use it
- 1Paste the page you want people to land on.
- 2Pick an example (Instagram, newsletter, Google Ads…) or fill in source, medium and campaign.
- 3Copy the link and use it in your post, ad or email.
- 4In GA4 go to Reports → Acquisition → Traffic acquisition to see the results.
Questions
What are UTM parameters?+
Small tags added to a URL (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign) that tell analytics tools where a visitor came from.
Should I use UTMs on internal links?+
No. Only use them on links from outside your website, or they overwrite the real source.
Upper or lower case?+
Stick to lower case. Analytics treats “Instagram” and “instagram” as different sources.
