Jonathan Copeland was born and went to school in Belfast, Northern Ireland before going to London to study law at University College London.
Work
He practised law in two major commercial law firms in the City of London for 25 years, first at Linklaters, the largest solicitors’ firm in the UK at the time, and then Stephenson Harwood, where he was a Partner. Throughout that time he travelled to Southeast Asia on a yearly basis and developed a passion for Indonesian culture and a strong, not yet fulfilled, desire to understand it.
Now
Jonathan is now a freelance photographer and writer specialising in travel and hotels. He lives mostly in Bali, Thailand and England and travels extensively.

Jonathan’s words and photographs have been published in magazines such as FRV Bali, Travel360 (Air Asia’s in flight magazine), Smile inflight magazine for Cebu Pacific Airways, Garuda Indonesia in-flight magazine, Hello Bali, Ubud Live, DANUM Magazine and Bali and Beyond and newspapers such as the Jakarta Globe, Jakarta Post, Bali Advertiser and The Times, Lombok.
He has contributed photographs for books, such as the ebook Murni’s Very Personal Guide to Ubud by Ni Wayan Murni (it is available in the Online Shop) Dancing Out of Bali by John Coast, Indonesian Food by Sri Owen, The Ethnomusicologists Cookbook edited by Sean Williams and Bali: The Ultimate Guide to the World’s Most Spectacular Tropical Island by Linda Hoffman and Forty Delicious Years, 1974-2014, Murni’s Warung, Ubud, Bali.
He took all the photographs for Murni’s Bali Tours, Where to go, What to go and How to do it (2016), an ebook of 7 special tours written and designed for guests staying at Murni’s Houses to bring with them on the tours. It is available in the Online Shop.
