Nokia (NYSE:NOK) is angry that Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) seemingly altered Siri’s response that endorsed the Lumia 900 as the best smartphone ever. Last week, there were reports that the iPhone 4S personal assistant was responding to questions about which smartphone was the best ever with results from an external website that ranked the phone built on Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system on top.
On Monday, Apple seemed to have made some alterations to the software, because Siri’s response changed to a selection of witty statements, such as “You’re kidding, right?”
Nokia says that’s unfair. “Apple position Siri as the intelligent system that’s there to help, but clearly if they don’t like the answer, they override the software,” Nokia spokesperson Tracey Postill told Sydney Morning Herald.
Siri was, in fact, earlier answering the question using survey results from WolframAlpha, a site that compares phones. Wolfram Alpha only had a handful of user reviews, but they averaged out to 5 out of 5 points for the Nokia phone. The then list of the top-ten smartphones on the website did not include the iPhone.
Apple has come out to say that it doesn’t control the Siri software, but it’s obvious something happened here. The California company has not yet made a comment.
